All Avenues, except Miami Avenue, are either East or West. However, Avenues are designated Northeast (NE), Southeast (SE), Northwest (NW) or Southwest (SW), depending on the quadrant the address is in.
Flagler St and all other Streets travel East and West;
Miami Ave and all other Avenues travel North and South;
If you are at the corner of S 252 Street and W 57 Avenue: You are in the South-West Quadrant (SW); you are 57 avenues west of Miami Ave and 252 streets south of Flagler St.
The street signs refer to the quadrants: NE, SE, NW and SW.
If you are in the NE or SE quadrant and wish to travel to the NW or SW quadrant, the numbers of the avenues will decrease in the East toward Miami Avenue and, increase in the West after you cross Miami Avenue.
If you want to go from a North quadrant to a South quadrant, the numbers of the streets will decrease in the North toward Flagler Street and increase in the South after you cross Flagler Street.
