Miami Good Traveling roads and Connections
The following two tables provide at a glance the favorite ways to travel in Miami-Dade County. Both tables are arranged from North to South (the rows) and, from East to West (the columns). Table 1 covers the North Part of the County, stopping at Flagler St, the dividing line. Table 2 covers the South Part of the County, from Flagler St.The purpose of these tables is to direct you to streets, avenues or major traveling highways.
The rows in each table list the best choices of Streets and other highways that travel East and West.
The columns list the best choices of avenues and highways that travel North and South.
Expressways and Major Highways are set in bold characters. Occasionally, they will not be found at the exact location where placed in the tables: Their actual design is not uniform. However, this is not an inconvenience. Major Highways are very recognizable.
An Asterisk (*) where a column meets a row indicates that the roadway of the column provides access to the Expressway or Highway of the row and vice-versa. Sometimes, connections exist that we may not recommend for practical reasons. Naturally occurring or man-made obstacles make these roads inappropriate for long-distance travel.
A good rule of thumb is to choose paths that follow the asterisks. The roadways listed have been chosen for their practicality, speed, convenience and security.
To find a side road,
-
Dissect the address of your destination and identify the street and avenue;
Use one of the tables to locate the intersection closest to your destination;
Determine where you are starting your trip from;
Follow the asterisks and make the connection.
Travel on a main Highway, get as close as possible to your target avenue and street;
From there, find your way to the address.
PRACTICAL NOTES:
Some major roads vary in number because of design, canals, parks or other obstacles. These roads are also named. Usually they are called Road (Rd), Drive (Dr), Boulevard (Blvd) or Way (Way). The range of numbers they assume is included in the tables along with their name. The street signs identify THEM with both name and number. If a street sign does not, it is not the major road you are looking for. Keep driving and cover the range of numbers listed in the table for the particular road.
SR 826 - PALMETTO EXPRESSWAY is included in both rows and columns in the table for the North part of the County . The Palmetto runs East-West along N 167 Street, then, turns 90 degrees to a North-South direction along W 72 Ave.
US 1 is also included in both rows and columns in the table for the South part of the County. In the North, US 1 follows the Biscayne Bay coast line, on the main land, in a North-South direction. In the South Part of the County, US 1 bends into a NE-SW direction, intersecting both streets and avenues.
