CLUES OF IMPORTANCE
Head of Web page:
title, description, keyword, meta tag.
Go back to the notebook and create a title for each page using the page's
primary keywords. Depending on the case, it may be impossible to insert all of
them into the title without sacrificing readability and ease of
memorization. However, a well thought 3, 4 or 5 word-title should satisfy these
requirements. Take a primary keyword and use other primary or main
keywords for a very brief description of the primary keyword you choose. Eliminate any
article (definite or indefinite) and any word that is not meaningful or
that does not fulfill a specific function.
The title has two objectives:
1- Present primary keywords to the search engines;
2- Present a catchy, memorable phrase to the surfer.
The title is the #1 source of keywords for the search engines. Therefore,
the keywords located in the title are the most important ones of the
site.
Insert the other primary keywords into the description along with the main
keywords. Put in some "other keywords" if possible.
Create a nice, flowing, inviting sentence describing the page or the site. Expand on
the brief description of the title. Sometimes, an unfinished sentence is
more powerful...because of the level of unknown that it uncovers and because of
the curiosity that it triggers.
The title and the description are what the search engines list for the surfers
to pick from. They are your sales pitch. Polish them. They
will determine whether a surfer clicks or passes the site. The title and
description must present a potential visitor with good reasons to enter a site.
Remember that the title and description must be accurate in representing the
site, coherent, attractive and full of keywords.
Now define the "keywords meta tag" by shoving all of the keywords, starting with
the primary ones.
